Someone We Used to Know
Whew quite the holiday! I just finished the artwork for my "Covers for the Holidays" EP. The collection includes covers of Woody Guthrie, Jolie Holland, & Damien Jurado among others. I did the entire thing on my laptop. In fact the only thing that isn't macintosh on the whole damn thing was the guitar strings. Somebody owes me money.
Read more about the EP HERE.
I have a few new Prufrock demos floating around but I'm hesitant to distribute them around. I would rather just wow with the end product so I'm going to hold off for now. Just try and change my mind. Here's a new garza demo. I was going for a "Highway Patrolman" vibe a la the Boss. Oh and I'm making my NYC performance debut on Jan 22nd @ the 169 Bar. werd
Neither Effigy, Nor Eulogy
I ain't a man of many fine words,
Public talkin' never got me much.
But I'm stuck in front of this microphone
To talk about someone we used to know
To talk about love
To talk about life
To talk about his passing last Thursday night
My brother became a man in Cleveland county
He learned to wear his work a different way
Though his fields never turned up much a nothin'
He met a small woman from McClain.
They talked about love
They talked all night
He talked her to a jewlry store and made her his wife
We were born off route seventy-five
Hellova place for kids to raise
We would drive all the way down to Atoka
To dance to the records they would play
And we drank all night
We drank to brothers and friends
We drank in hopes the evening would never end
His body began to shake just last season
His nerves a mess, his mind was all but gone
He was only living half a life then
It was just like Doc Huntington had thought
So we lit every candle
We said every prayer
Like we could get the Lord or Jesus to even care
I watched him lose himself
If there were words we didn't know
I just fingered the bullet in my pocket that'd send my brother home
Send my brother home.

A Ticket on an International Flight
Not a whole lot to report. I've been trying to learn some folks songs and write a couple here and there. The PLAN for now is to record 6 to 8 cover songs as The Garza Alternative and release it as a christmas album type thing. Nothing seasonal about it per say, but a gift to all of my friends that like to hear me quitely strum a guitar in the corner and mope. A little reminder that I exist and a prelude to a full length that I will hopefully be recording at the beginning of the year. Planned covers include : Jolie Holland, Kelly McRae, Page France, Peter and the Wolf, Woody Guthrie, and Damien Jurado.

Microwaves and Moderneity
I never meant to put you back together again.
Your cores and wires were not a concern.
I like the way you look sprawled out on the bench,
I find it easier to learn.
But technology has a cost,
I'm willing to pay it at a loss.
I sold my tools and shop some weeks ago,
I never planned to fix your flaws.
I wanna learn how your power conducts;
Follow the wires, effects and cause.
But nature lobbies it's own laws.
I'm willing to buy them out at cost.
Replication prevents loss.

I'm working on a website for mike right now for his engineering production portfolio. It's actually coming together rather quickly. You will be the first or second to hear about all of that. peace.
And for those of you that are not 'in' on it. I have a little mailing list of friends and music lovers. Basically I and a few other friends host records and email it out to the list for people to check out. We've dished out lots of good stuff over the past few months, Anyway if you are interested in getting random, anonymous and amazing music in your inbox just email me:

Not Such Good Stories
Not much going on here. I've been in NYC for almost a week. Haven't gotten a job, spent too much money running around, went to a museum, and ate some nice Indian food. On the music front I've been working on some new Prufrock songs. Two are more or less completed, named "Moderneity" and "How Much Farther to the Village?". I actually started another song a few hours ago to boot. My folk stuff will hopefully pick up too, I've been scribbling lyrics on subways rather frequently. I need to get a library card. Check back soon because I am in the final stages of the "Man and His Mustache" work and should post the soundtrack soon.
The plan for now is to record two or three new Prufrock songs with Michael (whilest in sellout mode) in a fancy hi-tech facility, sell said songs to Mexican rock radio and make billions $$$. Did I mention I want billions? I'm looking for band mates. But I'm too lazy to start turning over rocks just yet.
